All nonprofit organizations registered with Revenue Canada are invited to participate with Gifts In Kind Canada through one of three distinct registration levels:

1. Gifts In Kind® program
2. Direct Service Provider

1. Gifts In Kind® program

Gifts In Kind® program are managed by nonprofit organizations registered with Revenue Canada or recognized Indian Reservations that provide a vital source of product resources for other qualified nonprofit organizations in their local community. Gifts In Kind® programs are often managed by United Ways, volunteer centers, food banks and in some cases, qualified faith based organizations.

Gifts In Kind® programs are a significant part of Gifts In Kind Canada national network and recognize the value of enhancing the resources available to local nonprofits. Their significance is recognized through major communications efforts provided by Gifts In Kind Canada such as web site linkages, media alerts and communications kits, which enable them to participate fully in all national and local events.

Benefits to this program level include:

  • Management of local Gifts In Kind charity network
  • Central point for community wide media events (Gifts In Kind Canada provides the media kits including tip sheets, press releases, and media alerts)
  • Use of the name Gifts In Kind® under license using the Graphic Standards for the term of registration
  • Ability to receive truckload shipments at the most cost efficient Gifts In Kind International administrative fees.
  • Year round promotion of their program through Gifts In Kind Canada/International web site, and other communications vehicles.
  • Ability to receive products for use by their own organization.
  • Value-added information service to local nonprofits and affiliates.
  • Ability to add the value of the donations received by their membership to their annual reports to demonstrate their full value to the community and membership.

Roles and Responsibilities

The role of the Gifts In Kind® program is to outreach to United Way funded and non-funded charities on a monthly basis, to inform them of products available via the regional distribution centers or online through the Gifts In Kind International website. The program should host a web site link to Gifts In Kind Canada.

Roles and responsibilities for all Gifts In Kind® Program Affiliates are critical in the product distribution process. You must agree to keep agencies informed of product donations and maintain the Gifts In Kind Canada/International operational standards.
Responsibilities include:

  • Qualify only nonprofit organizations registered with Revenue Canada prior to granting access to the Gifts In Kind® program.
  • Provide access to the Product Catalog (available on Gifts In Kind International’s Web site, www.giftsinkindcanada.org to all qualified nonprofits in your geographic service area.
  • Monitor the proper use of product donations received by recipient nonprofit organizations.
  • Publicly recognize and thank donors.

2. Direct Service Providers

Access product donations directly from Gifts In Kind Canada and Gifts In Kind International. Donated products are used to increase the capacity of the organization to function and to enhance programs that incorporate product donations.

Access to products is provided on their desktop through the Gifts In Kind Canada and Gifts In Kind International web sites, through distribution centers generally within an hour drive time from most nonprofits, and through direct delivery to your doorstep.

Annual Registration Fees

Gifts In Kind® programs are eligible to continue participation at the 2005 annual program rate based on a sliding scale related to metro size. All fees include automatic registration Gifts In Kind International as well as Gifts In Kind Canada.

Partnering programs include United Ways and similar organizations that have the ability to reach out to reputable, qualified nonprofits are invited to register as a Gifts In Kind Canada Partner at a rate of $250 per year. This enables them to serve as the official qualifying conduit for nonprofits who must then register directly with Gifts In Kind Canada for a $50 annual registration fee.
